Easy Chocolate Sauce

Chocolate chips, heavy cream, corn syrup, and vanilla extract are all you need to make this easy chocolate sauce.

A good cake, brownie, cookie, or ice cream can stand alone.

But putting this easy chocolate sauce on top makes any of these desserts even better.

Easy Chocolate Sauce

This sauce is inspired by my mom.  I have countless memories from childhood of my mom miraculously whipping up a homemade chocolate sauce from a bag of chocolate chips.  Whatever the dessert, my mom made it extra special with her homemade chocolate sauce.

Now, she works that same magic whenever her granddaughters are over.

When I say this is the easiest chocolate sauce, I mean it.

With four ingredients, a saucepan, and a whisk, you can make a gourmet sauce that puts any store-bought chocolate topping to shame.

Dessert Pairings

My favorite way to enjoy this sauce is over my Katharine Hepburn Brownies or my Audrey Hepburn Chocolate Mini Cakes.  The addition of the chocolate sauce makes both desserts even more addicting.

Case in point: I made the brownies with this sauce, and the cakes with this sauce, each twice last month.

I wish I could say that we shared all that dessert with our neighbors, friends, and family.

But we didn’t.

We managed to devour every last brownie, mini cake, and drop of sauce ourselves.

We’ll try to be healthier this month.

But if I end up making this sauce again, all bets are off.

A Few Things!

This chocolate sauce thickens at room temperature.  To warm it up and thin it out, simply reheat the sauce in a saucepan over medium heat for a minute or two.

Any leftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator.  To reheat, simply microwave the sauce in a microwave-safe dish in 30 second increments, stirring between each increment.

If you’re looking for a good whisk, I love my Berglander stainless steel gold whisk.  It works great and it’s stylish.  You can find my favorite Berglander stainless steel gold whisk set on Amazon [aff. link], or in my Amazon store here.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chocolate chips, milk, dark, semi-sweet, whatever your preference
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

Make the chocolate sauce on the stovetop

  • Add all the ingredients to a saucepan. Turn the heat on to medium.
  • Whisk continuously until the chocolate chips melt and everything comes together in a smooth, thick mixture, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Taste the chocolate sauce. If it’s warm, it’s ready to serve. If you’d like the sauce warmer, continue whisking over medium heat for another minute or two.

Serve and enjoy!

Notes

The sauce will thicken as it comes to room temperature. Simply turn the heat back on to medium under the saucepan to reheat the sauce and make it thinner.
Store leftover chocolate sauce in the refrigerator. Reheat the sauce in a microwave-safe container in 30 second increments, stirring between each increment, until the sauce is the desired temperature and thickness.

Your pictures got me. Made this sauce with the Katherine Hepburn brownies last night. I used milk chocolate chips in the sauce. It was amazing! It makes a lot of chocolate sauce, but we don’t have much left over. 😋
